Divert Energy

By thought alone the caster can deflect a focused energy attack aimed at him to one side, possibly hitting a neighbor; area attacks cannot be diverted.

Working by thought alone, the caster tries to turn aside a focused energy or magical attack aimed at him, such as Eldritch Fire, Power Bolt or Mystic Bolt, by making a save vs Will before it strikes. Success means he takes no damage and the attack veers off to his left or right, where it has a 50/50 chance of hitting anyone standing beside him. Failure means he takes the full damage with no further save. Attacks that cover an area, like Fireball, Wall of Fire or Ice Storm, cannot be diverted.

A scene
The sorcerer in the plaza of Atlantis raises his hand and hurls a crackling bolt of power straight at the mystic's chest. The mystic Hesiod does not move. He watches it come, feels it, and with a single thought pushes it aside at the very last instant. The bolt veers to the right, misses him by a hand's width, and blasts the sorcerer's own bodyguard, who has been standing unwisely close to the mystic, flat into a fountain. The sorcerer stares at his hand. The bodyguard sits up in the water, dripping.
