Lets the caster put one question to the minor spirits of a natural place; they answer truthfully about their own surroundings and stay silent on anything else.

Every natural place, whether forest, stream, meadow or mountainside, is home to minor spirits, and this spell lets the caster speak with them. He may put exactly one question to them. If it touches in any way on the neighborhood where they live, the spirits give a truthful answer. If it has nothing to do with their own surroundings, they stay silent and offer no reply at all.

A scene
Before the seal hunt, the shaman Nuna kneels at the edge of the bay and taps the ice three times with her walrus-tooth rattle. The little spirits of the water answer as a hum under the frozen crust. She asks them one thing only: will the ice along the eastern point hold six men and a sledge until evening? It will not, they tell her. The current has been eating it from below for days. Last winter a young hunter asked these same spirits about a girl in a village across the strait, and got nothing back but cold silence.
