A divination that reveals what a piece of writing means. It works on inscriptions, symbols and texts of every sort, magical or not, however strange the markings. Its limit is quantity: one casting unlocks no more than a single page. There is no save, and the amount deciphered does not increase with the caster's level.

A scene
The clay tablet came out of a First Age ruin on the Plain of Gwyddneu wrapped in three layers of oiled silk, and the Atlantis Historical Society has paid well for a reading. The astrologer Melanthe lays her hand on it, speaks to the stars, and the crowded, alien marks settle into meaning one line at a time. The room holds its breath. She reads it aloud, slowly, then reads it again. It is a receipt for forty jars of olive oil, a quantity of salted fish, and a disputed goat.
