The fog-bound Karmakula Hills in the south of Zemlazelan hold the last survivors of a woolly mammoth herd and a few lone woolly rhinoceros. Both have long, coarse, snow-white coats that darken to spotted brown in the brief island summer. Traders pay extravagantly for their great tusks and horns, and some believe the ground ivory has magical powers.
