Necromantic Shape Change

Spell, Black Magic, level 3

A limited version of a vampire's power, letting the caster switch among vampire bat, wolf and gaseous form for an hour; animals are not fooled and no spells can be cast while changed.

From the book

A lesser form of the vampire's power to change shape. For 1 hour the caster can become a vampire bat, a wolf or a cloud of gas, switching between them as often as desired and keeping their own hit points. No spells can be cast in these forms. Animals are not deceived: unless they are unusually vicious, they shy away from the caster's scent.

A scene

The magistrate's men kick in the door of the tower in Kuru to find the necromancer Sipho standing calmly at his window. Before they can reach him he is a vampire bat, flitting out between the bars. In the courtyard he drops to the flagstones as a lean gray wolf and lopes for the gate, and when the gate proves shut he pours beneath it as a thin cold mist. The guard dogs outside do not chase him. They whine and back away, tails low, from the smell of him.
