Puts the caster in touch with a named greater demon or devil who truthfully, if cryptically, answers one question.

Opens a line of communication with a greater demon or devil in the lower planes, and the caster may put one question to it. The caster must know the fiend's name to reach it at all. Its answer is always true, but it may be vague or cryptic, leaving the caster to work out its meaning. There is no save.

On the cliffs of Thule, above the crevasse the Scritifi say reaches Hell, the necromancer Ragnhild whispers down into the dark a name she paid for with ten years of her life. A cacodaemon answers from very far below. She is allowed one question, and she asks it carefully: where lies the body of the wizard Othar? The voice that answers is true, as such voices always are. It says: where the ice remembers fire. Ragnhild spends a month working out what that means.
