Acrobatics I

Skill, Performing

Basic feats such as trained leaping and pratfalls.

From the book

Acrobatics I gives a character the basic tumbling repertoire. The first element is trained leaping: a jump of 4 ft straight up, 10 ft across, or a 10 ft drop without taking falling damage. Clearing a pit or crevice needs a run-up twice the length of the jump. With each level the upward leap grows by 1/4 ft, the long jump by 1 ft and the safe drop by 2 ft, up to maximums of half the DEX score in feet upward, twice DEX across and three times DEX downward.

The second is the pratfall, the ability to take a sudden fall without injury. The safe distance is 10 ft, plus 2 ft per level of ability. The acrobat can roll to soften the landing, or try to come down on their feet, which is 25% harder. The skill also includes Scaling Walls, as the thieving skill of that name.

Leaps and pratfalls succeed 95% of the time while the character stays within these limits. Going beyond them halves the chance at once, or worse for a truly outrageous attempt, and metal armor of any kind also halves it. Like all performing skills it costs 1,000 XP, and anyone other than a Harlequin needs 1-3 months of tutoring.

How it works
95% within the character's limits; halved when exceeding them or in any metal armor; leaps 4 ft up/10 ft across/10 ft down, improving each level; pratfall safely up to 10 ft +2 ft per level
Leap limits
Improves +1/4 ft up, +1 ft across, +2 ft down per level; maximums up = 1/2 x DEX ft, across = 2 x DEX ft, down = 3 x DEX ft; crossing a pit needs a running start of 2x the leap
Pratfall
Landing on one's feet is -25% harder
