Spirit binding table

Rule, Optional rules

A shaman's level against a spirit's level gives the roll needed to bind it, with automatic binding when far outleveled.

From the book

A shaman uses this table to bind spirits into service. Cross-index the spirit's level (1-15) with the shaman's level (1 to 15 and up) to find the number needed.

At equal levels the shaman needs a 10. Each level the shaman has over the spirit lowers this by 2, to 8, 6, 4 and 2, and at five or more levels above the spirit it is bound automatically (B). When the spirit is higher, the number rises to 12, 14, 18 and 20 for one to four levels of difference, and a spirit any further above the shaman cannot be affected. No matter what the table says, a roll of 1 always means the spirit has resisted.
