Orichalc
Alchemy, Advanced alchemical substance
Golden ingots that, forged into weapons or armor, give them magical bonuses up to +3.
From the book
Orichalc is made from 7 carats of powdered diamond and an ounce each of powdered copper, silver and gold, heated in the athanor for at least two weeks until it becomes a small ingot of golden metal about an inch long.
Added to the metal when weapons or armor are forged, each ingot lends them magical power. A dagger needs 1 ingot per +1; swords, axes, spears and the like need 2; every ten arrows or crossbow bolts need 1; staves and rods need 2; a shield needs 3; and a full suit of armor of any metal needs 7. No item can be raised above +3 with orichalc.
A failed attempt carries only a 5% chance of mishap. A dose is priced at 2000 G.P. All advanced substances call for an aludel and an athanor in a fully equipped laboratory. Each takes two weeks to make, with a success chance of 75% +1% per level of ability (99% at most).
