Zemlazelan

Zemlazelan is a lonely island midway between Jotunland and Jambu, where the North Sea meets the Sea of Baku: rocky, cliff-girt and without human inhabitants. In all its long history no settlement has survived more than a generation or two, for besides its harsh climate and terrain, its animals make it deadly to live on or even visit.

Beasts are few, but those that survive the struggle are fierce and powerful, mostly relics of ancient kinds that have vanished elsewhere, among them cave bears, dire wolves, giant rams and saber-tooth tigers, especially in the Saragava Mountains along the northern spine, which are also said to hold enormous rocs, great dragons and giant otters and wolverines. In the misty Karmakula Hills of the south roam the last woolly mammoths and a few woolly rhinoceros, whose tusks and horns fetch outrageous prices from traders; some believe their powdered ivory is magical.
