The Stygian Sea is a dreaded body of water that few men ever sail. The rare explorers who come back tell of unknown monsters that hunt ships the way jungle cats hunt prey, of leviathans and kraken, and of whales, squid, octopi and sharks grown to enormous size.
The worst danger, rumor holds, is a demon-worshipping Makara tribe living deep in the Stygian basin, whose shamans have made scores of lesser demons permanent residents of the sea and who are served by giant great white sharks. Earthquakes are said to shake the deep sea floor, possibly because the demonic planes lie close, sending huge tidal waves rolling out from the sea's center.
