Satyrydes

Place, Island

Three very large cold islands, Panogwyll and Panogyr in the Forgotten Sea and the largest, Panogea, near the frozen Ice Bay of Garmar, with mist-filled volcanic valleys of tropical growth where Satyrs and Gwyllion live. Every eleven years they cross the winter ice to the Ice Cove of Panogwa to raise an ice monolith and hold an eleven-day fertility rite. Sheban sailors reported First Age Atlantean ships frozen in the bay.

From the book

The Satyrydes are three very large islands known from ancient Atlantean accounts and a few later sailors' tales. Panogwyll and Panogyr lie in the Forgotten Sea; the largest, Panogea, sits close to where the Ice Bay of Garmar opens, a permanently frozen inlet of the Nether Realm coast. Hidden among their mountains are mist-wrapped valleys warmed by hot springs, three on Panogea, two on Panogyr and one on Panogwyll, filled with almost tropical plants and surprising animals. Small colonies of Satyrs and Gwyllion there are the only intelligent inhabitants.

In winter the sea freezes solid between the islands and the mainland. Once every eleven years, Satyr and Gwyllion bands walk across the ice to the Ice Cove of Panogwa on the Nether Realm shore, a brutal trek that kills many. The survivors raise a gigantic ice monolith inside a great ring of ice and hold an eleven-day orgiastic fertility rite, believed to make the next generation strong, then lose still more on the way home. In summer the ice breaks up, but bergs, floes, storms and sea dragons, especially near Panogwyll, keep the waters deadly.

A storm-driven Sheban ship once reached the Ice Bay and returned with word of four stout First Age Atlantean merchantmen frozen in the ice, their crews still visible at their posts. One bore the name Southwind Dayseeker, a ship of Atlantean legend lost before the Cataclysm carrying orichalc to a far colony.
