Paragua

Paragua is counted in the Central District but mixes Central and Eastern land and climate: mountains in the west and, in the east, jungles much like those of neighboring Aigua. The Acua Gulf lies north, an arm of the Atlantean Ocean and the Ulloan peninsula south, Nazca west and Quechua northwest. No humans have lived here for ages, not since the Uragua passed through on their way from Ulloa to Aigua, but like Birama and Mana it harbors demonic beings, especially Hantu and gremlins.

Several kinds of Hantu live in the Tumucumaaye Mountains of the west, many in deep caverns shared with the carnivorous scarlet leech fungus and other horrors of the dark. Rumors of great treasure in these tunnels lure adventurers, though nearby tribes dread the area.

Gremlins inhabit mountain valleys and jungle plains along the Quechuan and Nazcan borders, where they delight in tormenting humans and mimicking human institutions with savage gremlin humor. Legend says they long ago declared all Paragua their 'nation' under a gremlin 'King' with advisers and bodyguards, ruling from a gremlin-scale city named Ocawatazalacawatala, or Oa for short. Its largest building, the Royal Palace, rises three stories (36 inches) and covers 34 by 64 inches, reputedly built of solid gold melted from stolen human goods; there is also a gremlin-sized step pyramid and 'great monoliths' that are really small stones. Aping rulers of this world and others, the King demanded recognition and ambassadors from Nazca and Quechua, and when both refused in disbelief, declared 'war', so any human crossing Paragua can expect harassment from these amusing but often brutal creatures. Copying Nazca and Quechua, the gremlins have also conquered and enslaved a number of sprites, forced to enlarge Oa and work tiny farms; outnumbered, they have been broken in body and spirit by gremlin torture.
