The ruling northeastern province of Khitai, home to the capital Tang, much of the army and the richest Mandarin families, with the copper-mining military town of Dao Sung, tea, cloth and paper from Shem Yang and the fishing port of P'ong Yan.

The capital, Tang, stands in Okamchak, the governing province of Khitai, together with a great part of the imperial army and many of the wealthiest Mandarin houses. Dao Sung, site of a big military academy, has copper and a little iron mined nearby, while Shem Yang grows tea and makes fine cloth and paper. The noted fishing and merchant harbor of P'ong Yan ships ginseng and northern taro to Tang, and northeastern hunting tribes supply the capital with venison, furs, goats and horses. Jade mined at wealthy Khoyan, an outpost in the Kunlun range, reaches Tang by heavily guarded caravan from Chu Tang.
