Mohenjo-Daro, the capital of Meluhha, is a sprawling city of mud-brick buildings inland on the banks of the Akhan River, and the seat of the sultan's palace. It is a vital trading link between the eastern and western halves of the world. Merchants arrive by ship and caravan with every kind of ware, from silks and spices to ingots of copper, iron, silver and gold, gems, rare herbs and slaves, and ships from Sheba, Acheron, Khitai and even distant Tartessos bring news of far-off lands. Because every nation's vessels are always welcome, it is known as The Open City. Its merchants enjoy more respect than elsewhere in Meluhha and sometimes gain influence in government.
