Sylph

Creature, Spirit Entities

Air elementals always appearing as lovely seven-foot women of mist and cloud, the fastest and most beautiful elementals. Gentle and shy but terrible in anger, they command wind and weather and are courted by sailors; they protect the Hyad nymphs.

From the book

Sylphs are elemental beings from the outer planes. Just as earth gnomes always look like men, sylphs always take female form: most reach as much as seven feet, are lovely to look at, and seem made of mist and cloud, ethereal and hazy. No elemental is lovelier or swifter, moving as fast as the wind itself.

As minor elementals of the air they can make the winds obey them. They can thin themselves out to slip through the tiniest gap, but they cannot live anywhere with too little air to form their bodies, and solid earth, stone, water and similar substances bar their way.

Like salamanders, sylphs do not share the distrust and dislike that undines and gnomes feel for mortals, and both sometimes take humans under their protection; but where salamanders are fierce and eager to fight, sylphs are gentle and shy. It takes a great deal to provoke one, yet an angry sylph, master of wind and weather, can wreak terrible havoc, and its fury is nearly impossible to calm. They have no sense of territory and no interest in resources, and they rarely seek out mortals, so they usually have to be summoned; one making contact on its own happens only in very special cases.

A sylph can cast any elemental Air spell up to fifth level, one per level of ability daily, and can raise gusts and shift the wind at will, which is why sailors hoping for fair winds and safe passage court their favor. They are closely tied to the Hyads, cloud-dwelling nymphs. Helping a hyad in trouble is a sure way to win a sylph's goodwill, while harming or hounding one is likely to bring an air elemental's wrath.
