Korupira

Korupira are an evil humanoid race dreaded for their devilish cunning and their taste for eating their own kind. Uncommon, they live in small bands in jungles and temperate forests worldwide and rarely stir by day; their jet-black skin and hair leave them 90% undetectable in any darkness, and because they are cold-blooded, even infra-vision struggles to pick them out.

They look like well-built humanoids; both sexes average close to six feet, some reaching six and a half or more. Despite reddish eyes, sharp fangs and talons, the females are oddly attractive, so slavers sometimes capture them, file down fangs and claws and sell them to shady buyers for 200-1200 gold pieces, a perilous trade.

Like demons and devils, Korupira see normally in any darkness. They are very fast, with a mad, fiendish intelligence that often devises clever schemes to trap prey, and can perfectly copy any sound, from a bowstring's twang to a human voice or animal call, to lure prey into ambush or baffle pursuers. They fight with their claws, biting only fallen, dazed or helpless victims or anyone who grapples them, being fine climbers (they scale walls 95% of the time) they often drop from trees or ledges, and they flee when badly hurt. They are met alone, in pairs or in groups of up to six, and a mated pair turns berserk if either is threatened. Little more is known; some primitive tribes say they are demons bound to earth or lesser devils escaped from the lower planes.
