Kerubim

Creature, Spirit Entities

Giant winged spirit animals, usually lions with fifty-foot eagle wings and more rarely red or black winged bulls. They serve only good or neutral gods as messengers and servants, hate evil, and are summoned to guard temples or sent to aid the faithful.

From the book

Kerubim are winged spirit animals of two distinct kinds. The more common looks like a lion with wings spanning fifty feet; the rarer is a winged bull. Otherwise each resembles a giant version of its animal. Their feathered wings are like an eagle's and match the coat, tawny gold on the lion and red or black on the bull. They are magnificent, awe-inspiring beasts, and although they are spirits they always take physical form on the material planes. Kerubim know no fear and can never be taken by surprise.

On their home planes, gods and demi-gods use them as messengers and servants. They serve only good or neutral deities, for they hate everything evil, yet they will not attack evil beings unless their masters or a summoner acting in good faith tell them to.

In our world they are often called up to guard temples and other holy places against intruders, and being swift flyers they also make good messengers. Gods have sent them to fight beside their followers or to act against forces opposing divine purposes, so kerubim may appear as sentinels, warriors, advisors or avengers. Those who practice Divine Magic, High Magic or Mysticism can summon whichever kind they want, lion or bull, and set it to guard a person or building for up to an hour per level of the summoner.
