A hooded summoner raises a holy symbol as a winged demon and a horned devil rise from smoke in a fiery circle, elementals swirling above.

Phantom

Summoned creature, Undead

An incorporeal undead spy or killer.

From the book

The phantom is a non-corporeal undead. It has a level of ability of 8 and a Will of 10. Summoned, it will spy on or slay any enemy of the summoner. The Black Magic spell Phantom calls one without offering or inscription, since phantoms are eager to reach the world and wreak havoc. Lacking true form, it drains one hit point per level from its summoner to gain the same level, and the caster regains them only when it is destroyed or dismissed. Like a solid shadow, it attacks twice a round, throttling for 1-8 damage a minute, surprises victims 95% of the time in darkness, shuns daylight, and ignores fire, cold, lightning, ordinary weapons, poison and control spells.

Like all undead it comes from the shadow realms bordering Hades and the Abyss, hating the living and feeding on their life energy; any undead met in a deserted place has a 50% chance of being crazed with hunger and will attack whatever the odds. Every undead dreads the power of good, and priests or mystics can turn them. Necromancers and witchdoctors can call one of lower level than themselves with Summon Undead, which needs the circle and triangle but no offering.
