Every legal dispute in Acheron is decided here before a high priest of Heru, of whom the city has many, with litigants arguing each side; the ruling is final unless the Pharaoh intervenes. Cells for accused felons lie underground and are reputed to be thoroughly miserable, and sentences of execution or mutilation are carried out at dawn in the Public Square.
